A-League Round 12 betting tips, best odds & top value bets
The A-League season rolls on and round 12 is headlined by a blockbuster clash between the third placed Western Sydney Wanderers and the ladder’s runaway leaders Melbourne City. Kicking off the round Macarthur FC host the Central Coast Mariners in another match-up with premiership implications. We have also uncovered some juicy odds for Perth Glory who host the struggling Sydney FC at Macedonia Park. Read on for all the details.
Macarthur FC vs Central Coast Mariners
Friday 13 January – 7:45 pm AEDT
Campbelltown Stadium, Campbelltown
Macarthur ($3) produced one of their most clinical performances of the season in round 11 with a faultless 2-0 win over the Jets. A goal in both halves to Al Hassan Toure and Ulises Davila was enough to grab the premiership points and keep Macarthur in touch with the top three sides. Their goal difference still stands at zero, but five wins and two draws from 11 games is enough to prosper in this curious season.
The Mariners ($2.10) took Adelaide FC to school in round 11 in a 4-0 demolition that promoted the Central Coasters to second on the ladder. Goal scoring duties were shared between Beni N’Kololo, Penashe Madanha, Jacob Farrell, and an own goal by the hapless Alexandar Popovic. The Mariners are this season’s surprise package thus far, and internal confidence is sky high. These sides met in round six, with Macarthur prevailing in a 2-3 thriller, and little should split the sides again.
Macarthur FC To Win
Brisbane Roar vs Wellington Phoenix
Saturday 14 January – 5:00 pm AEDT
Kayo Stadium, Redcliffe
Speaking of surprise packages, the Brisbane Roar ($2.25) have defied the pre-season naysayers to sit fifth on the ladder. Brisbane emerged from a tough round 11 with a hard fought 0-1 win over Melbourne Victory, and a competitive 2-1 loss to the Glory. After clocking up the miles with successive road trips, the boys will relish a return to home soil. The Roar are a low-scoring side, but tight defence has kept them in many contests when they appeared over-matched.
The Phoenix completed a round 11 heist when they travelled to NSW and stole the points with a 0-1 win over Sydney FC. This continued their solid run of form, and the Kiwis now sit seventh on the standings. They are the league’s third highest scoring side with 19 goals and play a fan-friendly brand of football. Their free-scoring ways might be tested against the rock-solid defence of their opponents here.

Adelaide United vs Melbourne Victory
Saturday 14 January – 7:45 pm AEDT
Coopers Stadium, Adelaide
Adelaide ($2.50) slumped to an embarrassing defeat in round 11 and have struggled to sustain any consistency all season. They have four wins, three draws, and four losses to show for their efforts, and the gap between their best and worst performances makes them impossible to follow. Three of their wins have come on home turf, so we can conclude that they are much less effective on the road. Based on that stat, we are inclined to only consider tipping Adelaide when the Coopers ale is flowing for their home supporters.
The Melbourne Victory ($2.62) horror show continues, and Tony Popovic will be praying for a week when his side is not featured on nightly news bulletins. With three wins, a draw, and six losses to their name, the Victory are now dead last on the ladder. The squad has been unable to put off-field matters out their mind as typified by a round 11 loss to the Roar at AAMI Park. Until positive signs emerge, Melbourne Victory can only be taken on trust, and we are not that generously inclined.
Adelaide United To Win
Perth Glory vs Sydney FC
Saturday 14 January – 10:30 pm AEDT
Macedonia Park, Perth
The Glory ($3.75) walked away from round 11 with maximum points having snared an upset 1-0 win over the Wanderers and a 2-1 result over the Roar. After spending weeks on the road in early going, Perth are enjoying a stretch of home games and will be hard to beat again at Macedonia Park. Very hot weather conditions are predicted, which should suit the local lads. They should be at rock hard fitness levels too, which will help deep into a sweaty second half.
Sydney FC ($1.91) continued their indifferent form in round 11 and find themselves in eighth spot on the ladder, well below pre-season expectations. Punters remain undeterred, and we are baffled at their short quote for this tricky assignment. Sydney has underwhelmed since round seven when they knocked off Melbourne City, beating the Jets and losing to the Phoenix, Macarthur, and the Mariners, hardly confidence inspiring form.
Perth is the tip at the luxury odds of $3.75 with the top betting sites.
Perth Glory To Win
Western Sydney Wanderers vs Melbourne City
Sunday 15 January – 3:00 pm AEDT
Commbank Stadium, Parramatta
The Wanderers ($3.25) returned to their miserly ways in round 11 with a 0-1 loss to Perth, after we thought they might have thrown off the scoring shackles with a 4-0 romp in round 10. The defeat sees them slip to third on a tightly bunched portion of the ladder. Another loss here will see them slip further. Goal scoring has proven their weakness all season and Western Sydney average a mere one goal per game. They may spend long portions of this match-up locked in defence and will need to capitalise on any counter-attacking opportunities that arise across the afternoon.
The Melbourne City ($2.10) juggernaut rolled on in round 11 with a 4-0 thrashing of Western United. Marco Tilio got the party started in the ninth minute, and Leo Lacroix, Jamie Maclaren, and Andrew Nabbout rounded out an impressive attacking display. The win lifts the A-League’s standout side to a comfortable six-point lead at the top of the table. Their goal difference of 16, six goals better than the second placed Mariners, highlights their dominance at this point of the season.
Melbourne City To Win
Western United vs Newcastle Jets
Sunday 15 January – 5:00pm AEDT
Mars Stadium, Ballarat
Western United ($1.83) endured a dismal evening in round 11 against the one-way traffic of the league leaders. This followed three encouraging efforts where it appeared the boys from the west had improved on their defensive frailties. With their confidence rattled by the latest thrashing, United are fortunate to have drawn the struggling Jets. Another wipe-out might have broken their spirits with a long season yet to play.
The Jets ($3.80) continued their do or die approach in round 11 and were comfortably dispatched 2-0 by Macarthur. Newcastle are yet to register a single draw in this campaign and they sit 10th with four wins and seven losses to their credit. One can only imagine what is said during the post-match debrief sessions by the coaching team who would love to salvage the occasional point from tough fixtures.
