A League Matchweek 10 Betting Preview

The 2023/24 A-League season continues this weekend as we welcome the new year with six matches of Australian football action. Here are our tips and previews for round 10 of the A-League Men’s season.

Melbourne City vs Brisbane Roar

Thursday, December 28 – 7:45pm AEDT – AAMI Park

After losing their second consecutive match last weekend, the Brisbane Roar risk falling out of the top six for the first time this season. This weekend, they head to Melbourne to face a City side that has revived their season on a four-match undefeated run. City have only lost once at home this season, and they haven’t lost to the roar in their last five meetings. With the odds skewed towards City, look for added value in a low-scoring match as both sides have struggled in front of goals this season.

Sydney FC vs Wellington Phoenix

Friday, December 29 – 7:45pm AEDT – Allianz Stadium

Sitting a game clear at the top of the table, Wellington Phoenix continued the excellent start to the season with a 2-0 win over the Wanderers last weekend. Behind a stellar defence that has conceded just seven goals, the Phoenix have been able to keep the opposition off the ball thanks to their high-possession game style. Sydney FC collected their third win of the season last weekend to jump to tenth on the table, but with the second-worst attack in the league, they may struggle to create chances here.

Newcastle Jets vs Western United

Saturday, December 30 – 5:30pm AEDT – McDonald Jones Stadium

Two sides down at the bottom end of the table face off here in what is a massive clash if either side is going to salvage their season. The Jets suffered their fourth defeat of the season in a 3-1 loss to Adelaide last weekend, while United lost 4-2 as their defensive struggles continued. These are the two worst defences in the A-League, so while the result may go either way, expect plenty of goals.

Melbourne Victory vs Adelaide United

Saturday, December 30 – 7:45pm AEDT – AAMI Park

Still undefeated through nine rounds of the season, Melbourne Victory sit in second place after their 0-0 result in the Melbourne Derby. This week they host Adelaide United, who broke their three-match losing streak with a win over the Newcastle Jets. United are the highest-scoring side in the A-League, but there are clear defensive concerns as they haven’t kept a clean sheet in their last seven matches. The last three matches between the sides have ended 1-1, so expect another close match here.

Central Coast Mariners vs Perth Glory

Sunday, December 31 – 7:00pm AEDT – Industree Group Stadium

After starting the season winless in their first four matches, the Central Coast Mariners have turned their form around as they are undefeated in their last five matches. Now just two points outside the top six, they will be looking to extend their streak as they welcome the 11th-placed Perth Glory. The Glory are undefeated in their last six matches between the sides, but their away form this season has been particularly poor. Keep an eye out for Mariners’ winger Angel Torres, who has had a ridiculous month with six goals and two assists.

Western Sydney Wanderers vs Macarthur FC

Monday, December 31 – 5:00pm AEDT – CommBank Stadium

Wrapping up round ten is a match between two top four sides looking to change their poor form as the Wanderers welcome Macarthur FC. Both sides come into this match off disappointing defeats last weekend, as they have dropped further behind the league leaders. The Wanderers have been impressive defensively throughout this season and are undefeated in their last four meetings with Macarthur FC. Coming in as favourites, WSW should be too strong here.
