Coming off a disappointing 2023/24 season, expect Melbourne City to get straight back into contention for the A-League title. They strengthened their attacking options in the off-season and now have the second-best odds to win the grand final with top soccer bookmakers. Coming up against the fragile Newcastle Jets, City should be too strong.

Western Sydney Wanderers vs Sydney FC

In the most lopsided clash of the weekend, the Wellington Phoenix will be hoping for a strong start against Western United. Last season, the Phoenix were known for their strong defensive efforts, while United held the worst attacking record in the league. In Wellington, back the hosts to keep a clean sheet.

Macarthur FC vs Perth Glory

Sunday, October 20 – 4pm AEDT – Campbelltown Sports Stadium

After winning the Australia Cup last month, Macarthur FC have the perfect opportunity to kickstart their A-League season against last season’s bottom side, Perth Glory. Macarthur captain Valere Germain is coming off an excellent season with 20 goals, and he looks a great bet to score against the worst defence in the competition.
