A-League R23 preview, betting tips & match predictions
With just four weeks remaining in the A-League season, the finals picture is taking shape as teams fight for position inside the top six. Here are our soccer betting predictions for Round 23.
Western Sydney Wanderers vs Brisbane Roar
Friday, April 5 – 7:45pm AEDT – CommBank Stadium
Coming off two impressive victories on the road, the Wanderers are now sitting four points inside the top six. They come in as favourites against the Roar despite winning just one of the past 13 matches between the sides. Brisbane haven’t won an away game since December, suggesting that the home team offers good value with top soccer bookmakers.
Western Sydney Wanderers to win
Western United vs Macarthur FC
Saturday, April 6 – 3:30pm AEDT – Regional Football Facility Tarneit
Fighting for position amongst the top A-League sides, the fifth-placed Macarthur FC have a chance to practically secure their finals spot as they face the last-placed Western United. Despite having a miserable season, United are unbeaten in their past four home matches, so this could be a danger game for the inconsistent Macarthur.
Draw
Central Coast Mariners vs Wellington Phoenix
Saturday, April 6 – 5:30pm AEDT – Industree Group Stadium
It’s the clash that might decide the Premier’s Plate as the first-placed Wellington Phoenix head across the ditch to face the second-placed Central Coast Mariners. The Mariners enter as favourites at home, looking to reel in a three-point gap on the Phoenix. These are the two best defensive sides in the A-League, and after the reverse fixture ended 0-0, the under is the safe pick.
Under 2.5 goals
Melbourne Victory vs Melbourne City
Saturday, April 6 – 7:45pm AEDT – AAMI Park
Sitting four points outside the top six, it’s now or never for Melbourne City ahead of their derby clash with Melbourne Victory. City are the most unpredictable team in the A-League; they have multiple seven-goal wins, yet too often they are dropping points against the sides below them. With Victory unbeaten in three games, they come in as favourites with online bookmakers and should be too strong for their local rivals.
Melbourne Victory to win
Newcastle Jets vs Sydney FC
Sunday, April 7 – 3pm AEST – McDonald Jones Stadium
After their shock win over the Mariners last Saturday, Sydney FC have shown they can compete with the top A-League sides heading into the finals. They come in as hot favourites to beat the Newcastle Jets, who are winless in their past nine matches. Sydney have won the past three clashes between the sides to nil, and given the Jets haven’t scored in their last two matches, there is added value in the clean sheet.
Sydney FC to win to nil
Perth Glory vs Adelaide United
Sunday, April 7 – 3pm AWST – HBF Park
After going unbeaten for seven straight matches, Adelaide United have won their past two matches against teams below them. Facing another side below them this week, they face a tricky matchup on the road against Perth Glory. Winless in their past six, Glory have had a disappointing end to the season, but at home they should be able to earn at least a draw.
