A-League betting tips - Round 2 preview

After an exciting opening round, the 2024/25 A-League Men season continues with Saturday’s Melbourne Derby headlining the action. Below are our free soccer betting tips for every game of Round 2.

Macarthur FC vs Newcastle Jets

Friday, October 25 – 7:35pm AEDT – Campbelltown Sports Stadium

After a disappointing loss to Melbourne City in their opening game, the Newcastle Jets now face a tough test on the road against Macarthur FC. Fresh off a 6-1 victory over Perth Glory, Macarthur are the biggest favourites of the weekend. Croatian winger Marin Jakolis had two goals and four shots on target for Macarthur last Sunday, and he offers great value to score again at $3.40 with top A-League bookmakers.

Adelaide United vs Central Coast Mariners

Saturday, October 26 – 4:30pm ACST – Coopers Stadium

Playing their first game of the season, it doesn’t get much harder for Adelaide United than a matchup against the two-time defending champions. Central Coast were uninspiring in their opener as they failed to beat the 10-man Victory, but their defence remained a key feature. With both teams losing key attacking options in the off-season, expect this to be a low-scoring affair.

Melbourne City vs Melbourne Victory

Saturday, October 26 – 7:35pm AEDT – AAMI Park

In the marquee match of the weekend, two Melbourne sides with title aspirations face off. City were strong against the Jets in Round 1, while Victory were the better side against the Mariners before Roderick Miranda’s red card in the 60th minute. This is a tough match to pick, but given three of the last four meetings have finished in a draw, there could be value in taking that option.

Perth Glory vs Wellington Phoenix

Saturday, October 26 – 7:45pm AWST – HBF Park

The season couldn’t have got off to a worse start for Perth Glory, who lost 6-1 to Macarthur FC. Wellington Phoenix were underwhelming in a 1-1 draw with Western United, but heading across to Perth, they should be confident in beating the favourites for the wooden spoon.

Auckland FC vs Sydney FC

Sunday, October 27 – 2pm AEDT – Go Media Stadium

As the newest A-League team, Auckland FC started strongly last Saturday with a 2-0 victory over Brisbane Roar. This week they face a much tougher challenge against Sydney FC, who had a 2-1 win over the Wanderers. Auckland remain a relative unknown, but with the attacking talent on either side, there is a good chance both teams will score.

Western United vs Western Sydney Wanderers

Sunday, October 27 – 4pm AEDT – Ironbark Fields

After a disappointing Sydney Derby loss last Sunday, the Western Sydney Wanderers have a great chance to bounce back against Western United. Although United are coming off a promising draw against the Phoenix, last season they were the lowest-scoring team in the A-League. At $2.37 with top online bookies, back this match to go under 2.5 goals.
