A-League R18 preview, free betting tips & best soccer odds
The 2023/24 A-League Men season continues this weekend as we gear up for six matches of Australian top-flight soccer. Here are our free A-League betting predictions for every match of Round 18.
Brisbane Roar vs Western United
Friday, February 23 – 6:45pm AEST – Suncorp Stadium
After securing just their third win of the season last weekend, Western United will be looking to take some momentum into the back end of the campaign as they head up to Brisbane. Whilst United have struggled to get on the scoreboard, the Roar hold the worst defensive record in the A-League, which should mean more opportunities for the visitors. As neither team has shown any trustworthy form, over 2.5 goals looks a safe play.
Over 2.5 goals
Sydney FC vs Melbourne City
Saturday, February 24 – 5:30pm AEDT – Allianz Stadium
Melbourne City head to Sydney this weekend for a clash that has plenty on the line. Sydney FC come into this match in excellent form with just one loss from their past nine, while City are trending in the opposite direction with just one win from their last six matches. Although City are undefeated in their past four between the sides, with Sydney FC at home and in better form, they are the smart pick.
Sydney FC to win
Adelaide United vs Western Sydney Wanderers
Saturday, February 24 – 7:15pm ACDT – Coopers Stadium
Despite looking like title contenders earlier in the season, the Wanderers have slipped to the fringe of the finals spots with one win from their last five games. As they head on the road this weekend, they face another side equally out of touch. Sat in ninth spot and without a clean sheet in their past 15 games, Adelaide United’s season has been a disaster. The Wanderers won the reverse fixture 1-0 in December, but with the current form of both sides, a draw looks the most likely result.
Draw
Perth Glory vs Wellington Phoenix
Saturday, February 24 – 6:45pm AWST – HBF Park
Sitting five points clear at the top of the table, the Wellington Phoenix are defying all expectations this season. This weekend they face a tricky test against the in-form Perth Glory. Despite sitting in 10th, Glory have the best attacking record in the A-League and are on a five-match unbeaten run. When the two sides faced each other earlier this season it was a 4-3 win to the Phoenix, so we are backing this one to have plenty of goals once again.
Over 3.5 goals
Melbourne Victory vs Central Coast Mariners
Sunday, February 25 – 5pm AEDT – AAMI Park
In the headline match of the weekend, it’s second versus third in Melbourne on Sunday afternoon as Victory host the Mariners. Tied on points, this game should be a thriller as the dynamic Mariners attack looks to get through the best defence in the A-League. As both sides have had just one loss in over three months, it is hard to pick who will be stronger here. But after their clash earlier this season finished 1-1, expect a similar result this weekend.
Draw
Newcastle Jets vs Macarthur FC
Sunday, February 25 – 5pm AEDT – McDonald Jones Stadium
Previously on an eight-match unbeaten streak, Macarthur FC went down to the top-placed Phoenix last weekend despite dominating large portions of the match. As they head to Newcastle on Sunday, they should return to winning ways against a Jets side with just one win so far in 2024. As the away side, Macarthur offer great value as +220 underdogs with top online bookmakers.
Macarthur FC to win
