A-League match of the round punting tips for Adelaide vs Brisbane

A-LeagueCoopers Stadium, Adelaide on Saturday, 27th of February from 5:15pm

IT’S second against third in the A-League match of the week on Saturday night.

The red-hot Adelaide United host the premiership favourite, the Brisbane Roar, at Coopers Stadium.

After starting the season as one of the league’s easy-beats, Adelaide’s reversal of form has been nothing short of astonishing.

The Reds are on a 12-match undefeated streak and are coming off arguably their finest win of the season to date, a 1-0 away victory over the Melbourne Victory at AAMI Park.

The win was Adelaide’s first success against the Victory in more than five years and the first time Melbourne have lost at home in 11 matches.

The win rocketed the Reds into third position on the A-League table, just two points shy of their Saturday night opponent.

After starting the season as one of the wooden spoon favourites, the Reds could inconceivably sit at the top of the table after the round.

Brisbane Roar’s manager, John Aloisi, believes the Reds’ perseverance on the pitch has been the key to their current success rather than a change of tactics.

“Adelaide are 12 on the spin now (without a loss) but I thought they played well even at the start of the season,” Aloisi said.

“Things weren’t going their way then, whereas now it’s gone the other way a little bit.

“I don’t think they’ve improved out of sight, they have been good the whole time.

“(Reds coach Guillermo) Amor has got his team to a level that if they need to control a football game with possession, they do and if they need to sit off and catch you on the counter, they can.”

The Roar played out a nine-goal thriller last week against the Perth Glory, but failed to pick up the win for the second consecutive week.

An incredible seven goals were scored in the first half as the Glory’s resurgence in form continued, ending the game as 6-3 winners against one of the premiership favourites.

Aloisi said his players response has been terrific after a substandard showing.

“Training has been good so far this week. Everyone was naturally disappointed with what happened in Perth and we’re out to make amends on Saturday.”

This fixture has been one of the more entertaining ones in the A-League over the last two years.

The previous ten matches between the two sides have been split at five wins apiece.

Neither side chalking up consecutive wins over their opponents in that time.

The Roar and the Reds also never disappoint on the scoresheet either.

Just two clean sheets have been kept for either across two years in this fixture, with 16 goals scored in the last four matches between the two sides.

Adelaide United won the last time the two sides met back in January 4-1.

Will the Roar keep the alternating wins trend intact, or will the Reds’ sensational form continue en route to securing a top-two spot by the end of the round?

One of the most entertaining fixtures in the A-League is the match of the week returns on Saturday night when third placed Reds host the top-two Roar at Coopers Stadium.

The winner of the match could potentially be the league leaders after the completion of round 21.

Adelaide is one of the form teams of the competition and they are currently enjoying a 12 game unbeaten run.

The Reds have worked up the table on the collective effort of the squad rather than the individual brilliance of one player.

The perceived weakness of no true goal scoring threat has been of the great strengths of Adelaide given they do not rely on one player to dig them out of situations, requiring each player on the pitch to step up.

The Brisbane Roar have been one of the most entertaining teams to watch this season, whether it is in victory or defeat.

The Roar are currently second on the table and have experienced some terrific wins, but they have also tasted heavy losses this season.

The Victory smashed the Roar 4-0 earlier in the season and the Perth Glory decimated them last weekend, putting six goals past them.

Which Brisbane side will show up this week?

The Roar’s manager John Aloisi said the mood on the training track has been where it needs to be after the shock loss to the Glory but traveling away the form team of the competition will be no easy feat.

We expect another entertaining contest between the Roar and the Reds, but this time we anticipate Adelaide bucking the trend on their way to recording back-to-back wins over Brisbane for the first time since 2005.
