2025 F1 Spanish Grand Prix starting grid & betting tips
Round nine of the 2025 Formula 1 World Championship arrives at Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, where Oscar Piastri will start from pole position for the Spanish Grand Prix.
In a dominant showing from McLaren, Lando Norris joins him on the front row, locking out P1 and P2 for the Woking-based outfit. The race begins Sunday at 11pm AEST.
Piastri & Norris lock out front row as Verstappen starts P3
McLaren’s rise in 2025 doesnt stop with the new flexi wing regulations with another qualifying masterclass — this time in Barcelona — as Oscar Piastri topped the timesheets to secure his fourth pole of the season.
The Aussie doesn’t look like letting up in the Drivers’ Championship race and cementing his status as the man to beat in 2025.
Alongside him, Lando Norris will start P2, making it a McLaren front-row lockout for the second time this year. Norris was 0.2s off pole and looked quick across all three qualifying segments. With both cars ahead of the Red Bull, McLaren will be focused on using team strategy to keep their advantage into Turn 1 and beyond.
Max Verstappen starts P3 after an uncharacteristically scrappy Q3 lap. While Red Bull’s long-run pace remains a threat, Verstappen will need to clear at least one McLaren early to have a shot at victory — especially with track position playing a big role at Barcelona.
George Russell starts in familiar territory at P4 — the same grid slot from which he surged into the lead at Turn 1 last year. With improved one-lap pace and a solid launch history, he’ll be hoping for a repeat of that early battle to push himself into podium contention once again. If the Mercedes strategy holds, Russell could be a major player in Sunday’s fight at the front.

Spanish GP betting predictions after qualifying
Lando Norris (McLaren) to win
McLaren are in a great position here, but if history is anything to go by, they’re always a threat to shoot themselves in the foot with strategy. Whether it’s pit stop timing or team orders, there’s usually something that compromises one of the two drivers — and it often ends up benefiting Lando Norris. At +175, backing Norris to win looks like excellent value given his current form and team dynamics.

George Russell (Mercedes) podium finish
Incredible odds for the main Mercedes man here in Spain — and at +350, it’s simply too good to pass up. George Russell is outperforming expectations and delivering strong results, even when the machinery under him isn’t quite at McLaren or Red Bull’s level. He’s got the consistency, the racecraft, and the Spanish GP track history to make a genuine impact. Take the value and run.

Issack Hadjar (Racing Bulls) top six finish
Rookie of the year so far — and we’re backing him again. Isack Hadjar have shown incredible composure and race pace for a first-year driver, and his consistency have been unmatched among the newcomers. With the Racing Bulls’ strategy team firing on all cylinders, expect another tactical masterclass. He’s proving every week that he belongs in F1, and this weekend should be no different.
