2024 Brazil GP highlights: Verstappen’s victory & Alpine’s surge
The 2024 Brazil Formula One Grand Prix, held on Monday, November 4 (AEST), delivered an action-packed race filled with drama, including four significant accidents, multiple FIA penalties, and a formation lap spin by Lance Stroll.
Here’s a breakdown of what the thrilling race meant for fans and punters alike.
Max Verstappen triumphed in a challenging wet race, starting from 17th on the grid. He gained seven positions on the opening lap, and a timely red flag allowed him to change tires without losing position, setting up a close battle with Esteban Ocon for P1.
This victory showcased the three-time World Champion’s skill, extending his lead over rival Lando Norris to 62 points. If Verstappen maintains a 60-point lead after the upcoming Las Vegas Grand Prix, he will secure his fourth world title.
The race marked a standout day for Alpine, who scored an impressive 33 points, propelling them to 6th place in the Constructors’ Championship.
With both drivers landing on the podium, Alpine now has a significant advantage in the standings and stands to gain an additional $15 million in prize money if they can retain their position.
2024 Brazil Biggest Winners
He held off three competitors and looked to be a serious contender. However, a call to the pits followed by a poorly timed red flag disrupted his momentum.
His resilience and skill in challenging conditions were clear highlights of the race.
2024 Biggest Blunders
With the outcome in Brazil, it’s now almost mathematically impossible for Norris to challenge Max Verstappen for the title this season.
The backend was sliding out for him almost all race and only looked comfortable just prior to the red flag but went all downhill again after the restart.
Both cars got into accidents during Quali, and then sadly, Franco Colapinto dipped his tires into the wet and slid into the barriers, causing a red flag during the race.
