2023 WSL Bells Beach Pro called ON – Under an hour to get your surf bets on

The worlds oldest continuously running surfing contest, the Bells Beach Pro, entered the wave waiting period on Tuesday April 4 2023, and after two days of anticipation the event has been called on for today.

The first heats will be in the water at 8:30am with coverage via the WSL app or Youtube.

Today’s WSL surfing action will begin with the en’s Opening Round followed by the women’s Opening Round.

The competition will run at Winkipop today, which is currently offering clean waves in the two-to-three-foot range.

In the opening heat Australia’s Ethan Ewing will take on USA’s Nat Young and Costa Rican Carlos Munoz.

Ewing and Young have both had successful results at Bells in the past. This will be Munoz’s maiden appearance at this prestigious event.

On Monday we ran you through our predictions and analysis of the men’s and women’s draws and gave you our Bells Beach Pro outright winner tips.

Since we published that surfing betting preview, one of our three picks in the men’s draw, Kelly Slater has been backed in from +5000 to +4000 at sports betting sites.

With just under an hour to go there is still plenty of time to get those outright bets in before the opening round heats.

“We are going to call competition on at Winkipop today,” said WSL Chief of Sport Jessi Miley-Dyer.

“There isn’t quite enough swell at the moment on the Bells side, but ‘Winki’ is offering up some really fun waves. We have called both the men’s and women’s Opening Rounds on and hope to complete both by day’s end.

“This swell is a short one for just today and maybe tomorrow morning, so we want to make the most of the opportunity before we face some challenging conditions over the next couple of days.”

Heat 2 of the women’s Opening Round today, will see CT standout Johanne Defay (FRA) make her return to competition after she sat out the first three events of the season due to an injury.

She will matchup with current world No. 1 Molly Picklum (AUS) and fellow Australian Macy Callaghan (AUS).

The last heat of the day will see reigning 8-time World Champion Stephanie Gilmore (AUS) start her campaign for a solid result here at Bells in order to make the Mid-season Cut.

She will face Tour veteran Courtney Conlogue (USA), who is also in danger of making the cut, and face final 5 competitor Brisa Hennessy (CRC).

Once the opening round and elimination rounds have finished, Bettingsite.com.au will give you round by round preview and tips with special focus on the head-to-head rounds where the betting is always exciting.
