10,000 likely to stay at Doomben

The Group One Doomben 10,000 appears likely to remain at Doomben but at an earlier date.

There has been much discussion in Queensland after it was suggested the 10,000 be moved from Doomben to Eagle Farm on May 27.

The move was one of two proposals regarding the 10,000 put to the Queensland Thoroughbred Advisory Panel at a meeting in Brisbane on Wednesday night.

The panel was set up by the state government as a sounding board for Racing Queensland on major issues.

It is made up of representatives from breeders, trainers, race clubs, jockeys and betting agencies.

The proposals were aimed at having three race meetings at Eagle Farm during the winter and two at Doomben.

Currently there are three at Doomben and two at Eagle Farm.

Racing Queensland chief executive Elliott Forbes confirmed two proposals were among the 16 matters discussed.

He said RQ had taken what was said on board.

It is understood the second proposal would mean the Doomben 10,000 would stay at Doomben but be run earlier on May 13 and shortened to 1200m, the original distance of the race.

A rich stakes sprint race – either new or the current BRC Sprint – would then be run at Eagle Farm on May 27 as the first of three days at Eagle Farm.
