Round 1 result:Adelaide Crows: Loss to Essendon, 87-99Richmond Tigers: Win over Carlton, 121-95
Thursday, 29th March, 2018, 7:50 pm AEST, Adelaide Oval, Watch on Seven Network and on Fox Footy.
LAST year’s final combatants will lock horns once again in the Grand Final re-match this Thursday night.
This is the first meeting between the two sides since the Tigers made history by breaking their 37-year premiership drought last October.
This time around the Crows have no excuses as the match will be played at Adelaide Oval.
Hardwick’s men will once again enter the match with more momentum after a win last week against a competitive Carlton. The inclusion of Bachar Houli will help an already-settled backline, adding more offensive firepower to its arsenal.
For the Crows, allowing the Bombers to come back from 20 points down at three quarter time and win was a disappointing way to open their season. Adelaide desperately needs its injured forwards to return in time to take on the Yellow and Black landslide that continues to gain momentum each week.
With over 200 markets to choose from for the match, here are some of the odds that caught our eye this week.
Adelaide Crows vs. Richmond Tigers round 2 – Total Points market
Richmond arguably has the best defence throughout the competition while Adelaide boasts the most competent offence. The Crows managed 87 points in a discombobulated effort against a strong Essendon backline last week. Back in Adelaide with the support of a home crowd, we’re backing the Crows to 2-3 more goals and hit the 91-105 line.
61 – 75 @ $4.50 with Sportsbet
With question marks surrounding Richmond captain Trent Cotchin — who spent time in hospital with migraines this week — and Adelaide’s desperation to get its first win of the season on home turf, we think scoring is going to be hard to come by for Richmond.
Yes, the Tigers’ small forward line tore the Crows to pieces in the Grand Final, but watch for Adelaide’s small defenders, led by Rory Laird, to put a tighter clamp on this time around.
Adelaide Crows vs. Richmond Tigers Round 2 – To Get 25 + Disposals tips
Rory Atkins @ $3.60 with Sportsbet
Last time these two met in Adelaide, Atkins tallied 23 disposals in a big win. Rory has seriously improved in the small time since and, despite a quiet performance in round 1, will deliver for us here with more than 25 disposals at a healthy $3.60.
Caddy had a brilliant game last week, dominating up forward with 19 disposals and setting up multiple goals. We think that Richmond will utilise Caddy even more this week and has form against this side. At $4.50, we think that Caddy — who is likely to get more midfield minutes — is value.
Adelaide Crows vs. Richmond Tigers Round 2 – Winning Margin tips
1 – 19 @ $4.00 with Sportsbet
Even though they did not win last round, Adelaide go into the match as favourites. Matt Crouch and Rory Sloane can go pound for pound with Martin and Cotchin and the backline can stabilise Richmond’s forward line intensity with improved ball use. Ultimately, Adelaide don’t lose too many games that they enter as favourites. Also, Don Pyke doesn’t make two mistakes in a row, he won’t be out-coached again. It’s going to be a tight one either way, so if it’s the Crows we expect them to win by no more than three goals.
1 – 19 @ $4.50 with Sportsbet
Forget about premiership hangovers, the Tigers look just as hungry as 2017 and have started the season off on the right note. Every time footy experts question their legitimacy, the Tigers get the job done anyway. We expect this to be a close one, but you’d be crazy to rule out the champions.
Adelaide Crows vs. Richmond Tigers Match Predictions
Match Result: Adelaide to win @ $1.62 with Ladbrokes
Line Betting: Adelaide – 8.5 @ $1.92 with Ladbrokes
Seeking redemption, the Crows will be out for blood on Thursday night. A big outing from Eddie Betts might just be the spark Adelaide needs and we expect this match to be Jack Graham’s first loss in the yellow and black. Richmond will still be a strong team throughout 2018, but the home field advantage that Adelaide Oval gives could be too much here.
