GOOD Friday footy is back once again in 2018.
The newest tradition in football will see the Kangaroos battle it out against the holiest of teams, the St Kilda Saints.
North Melbourne tried its best in a gruelling war of attrition against Gold Coast, where the sides literally played in a swimming pool up in Cairns. The signs were far from positive where the Roos broke an embarrassing record for taking the fewest marks in a game of footy — 21 — which is four less than the previous record held by the Bulldogs.
Against a revitalised Brisbane Lions, St Kilda held on firmly to win by 25 points. Impressive outings from Jack Billings and Jack Steven catapulted the Saints midfield, while Jake Carlisle held the defensive end together, giving Saints fan some hope that they do have the top-end talent to make a push for finals.
Let’s continue on to the markets we think hold the best value for Friday’s match.
North Melbourne Kangaroos vs. St Kilda Saints Round 2 – Total Points Over/Under tips
North Melbourne Kangaroos
Over/Under 89.5 – Under @ $1.89 with Sportsbet
Arden Street hasn’t been this weak since the early 70’s. If Gold Coast, without two of its best players, can somewhat easily beat the Roos, than the Saints with their young and exciting team can do the job too. North Melbourne has huge problems forward of centre, Jarrod Waite is far too old to be a focal point. North will struggle to score 70 points this Good Friday.
St Kilda Saints
Over/Under 107.5 – Over @ $1.90 with Sportsbet
When the St Kilda forward line gels, the potential is limitless. Tim Membrey was fairly poor in a high-scoring outing for his team in Round one. We expect a major change when he matches up against a limited North defence. Josh Bruce is also set to break out in 2018 — we suspect a confidence-boosting match against the Roos could be just what he needs.
North Melbourne Kangaroos vs. St Kilda Saints Round 2 – To Get 25 + Disposals tips
North Melbourne Kangaroos
Jack Ziebell @ $2.30 with Sportsbet
These odds are too good to be true. Jack is the heart and soul of North Melbourne. Coach Brad Scott would be silly to play Jack forward for the majority of the match against such a fast and well-drilled St Kilda midfield. North obviously lack class in the centre. If played in the guts, Ziebell will easily notch up 25 touches.
St Kilda Saints
David Armitage @ $1.80 with Sportsbet
Armitage played his first match since early in 2017 and looked the goods in Round one. David found the footy at will and ran out the game with gas left in the tank. After building confidence, Armitage could be set to return to his league-best form and 25 disposals is certainly in play.
North Melbourne Kangaroos vs. St Kilda Saints Round 2 – Winning Margin tips
North Melbourne Kangaroos
1-19 @ $5.50 with Sportsbet
Unless there is an unbelievable change in the way the Roos are playing their footy, we can’t see them winning this match. The match being played at Etihad is going to counteract the home field advantage, as it’s also the Saints’ home ground. Jack Ziebell and David Cunningham alongside Ben Brown are the only players that are genuine game-winners and if North can win, it’s going to be a close one.
St Kilda Saints
20-39 @ $4.33 with Sportsbet
Even though we give North almost no chance of winning, St Kilda hasn’t proven that they are capable of belting another team. The 20-39 margin seems about right for a team that may not make it into the top eight, but will be in contention.
North Melbourne Kangaroos vs. St Kilda Saints Match Predictions
Match Result: St Kilda to win @ 1.37 with William Hill
Line Betting: St Kilda – 17.5 @ $1.90 with William Hill
North Melbourne is currently bereft of talent across the whole field. While the Saints aren’t exactly looking like world-beaters either, their ambitions for 2018 are a lot loftier and they have the talent and depth to get the job done here.
