Saturday, 9th June, 1:45 pm AEST, 2018, GMHBA Stadium, Watch on the Fox Footy Network.
GMHBA Stadium will come to life this Saturday night when the Geelong Cats host the North Melbourne Kangaroos.
Before the start of the season most would have predicted that this match would have been a certainty for the Cats, but after a great start to the season the Kangaroos have proven themselves as a strong football club.
Both sides played in a percentage-boosting match last week. The Cats beat the Suns by 85-points at Metricon Stadium while the Roos beat the Lions by 54-points.
Sitting within whispering distance to each-other on the ladder, the Cats and the Roos share the same amount of wins and have had similar form-lines through the first 11 matches.
The coaches for these sides happen to be twins, Chris and Brad Scott — Chris of the Cats and Brad for the Roos.
The two brothers have both successfully beaten one another on different occasions, in more recent times, it has been Chris that has had the last laugh.
The last match between these two was a thriller that resulted in an amazing comeback by North in the final quarter, only to lose by one point when the match concluded.
The odds favour the Cats, but either side could get up on the day. Here’s our tips for Saturday’s blockbuster in the heart of Geelong.
Geelong Cats vs. North Melbourne Kangaroos Round 12 – Total Goals Tips
Geelong Cats 12.5 goals Over/Under
The way the Roos have defended this season makes them one of the best sides in the league defensively. They have the third lowest points against in the league, only conceding 44 more points than the league leader. The Roos backline works well as a whole and the two-way running from the midfielders has been a vital ingredient to its stingy play.
North Melbourne Kangaroos 10.5 Goals Over/Under
Under @ $1.95 with Sportsbet
We mentioned the Kangas were the third best team defensively, but did we mention Geelong was the number one side in the same category? The Cats backline was completed with the return of Harry Taylor, who holds the key position players at bay, fitting perfectly with the way Chris Scott wants the side to play. Tom Stewart has ascended to another level this season and looks a strong candidate for All Australian honours. The Roos will have trouble scoring against such a strong backline this week.
Geelong Cats vs. North Melbourne Kangaroos Round 12 – Player Specials Tips
Patrick Dangerfield to get 30 disposals @ $2.10 with William Hill
In the last two matches between the Cats and Roos, there has been one player that has stood out amongst the rest. Patrick Dangerfield was the obvious best on ground in both matches, especially the 2016 match where he collected 48 disposals and three Brownlow votes. If North Melbourne has any chances of winning this match they will need to tag Dangerfield, the only problem is that there is only one Ben Jacobs and three champion midfielders at the Cattery. We expect Jacobs to match-up directly with Gary Ablett Jr as he dominated the match against the Suns. Leaving Patrick Dangerfield to accumulate the football for the entire night.
Ben Cunnington to lay 6 tackles @ $2.00 with William Hill
Ben Cunnington has emerged as a cult figure for the Roos, but more importantly a superstar in the competition. His laid back attitude mixed with his get-the-job-done mentality, make for a player we love to watch. One of Ben’s greatest assets is his ability to not only lay tackles, but to stick them and make the poor bloke sore afterward. We see Ben laying plenty of tackles against the Cats as their midfield will use their high-possession game style to win the match, leaving a myriad of opportunities for Ben to use his grunt and power.
Geelong Cats vs. North Melbourne Kangaroos Round 12 – Race to Tips
Race to 35 Points
Geelong Cats @ $1.50 with Ladbrokes
At the Cattery, it is very difficult to get the jump over Geelong. We see the Cats kicking plenty of early goals and being the first side to 35 points for the match. North Melbourne may be a great side when it comes to defence, but with Jarred Waite a ‘test’ to play, they could be a crucial forward short, leaving the solitary Ben Brown to do all the scoring himself. Geelong to reach 35 points first.
Cats vs. Kangaroos Match Predictions
Match Result: Geelong Cats to win @ $1.45 with CrownBet
Line Betting: North Melbourne Kangaroos +14.5 @ $1.92 with CrownBet
Geelong should safely win the encounter, but that doesn’t mean they will do so easily. The line is very lenient, allowing for up to 14.5 points before the first bounce to the Roos, they are a likely chance to land within this line when the final siren sounds.
