The injury-riddled Giants will be out to get their premiership campaign back on track when they attempt to stop the surging Eagles at Spotless stadium on Sunday.
Coming into the match in fifth position, the Giants have displayed polarising performances over the last three weeks and were blown out of the water last week against Geelong.
On the other side of the country, West Coast continue to get better each week, winning six straight matches after an opening round loss.
The Giants are in a form slump that is going under the radar of most experts and bookies. Leon Cameron’s men had a draw with the 16th-placed Saints, a five goal win at home over the last-placed Lions and a horrific loss to the Cats in Geelong. The men in orange were underwhelming in each outing and will need to improve here if they are to win on home turf.
West Coast can do no wrong. Josh Kennedy has returned and is providing brilliant value for money. Speaking of value for money, Jack Redden was near best on ground last week against a competitive Port Adelaide midfield, accumulating 32 possessions and kicking a goal.
Nic Naitanui has been found guilty of a dangerous tackle and will miss the game against the Giants. The tackle was not deemed worthy of a week in the eyes of the Eagles, they have decided to challenge the decision this Wednesday. The Giants fans will be very nervous awaiting the decision.
Terrible flashbacks will come into the mind of Leon Cameron if Nic Nat gets the all clear. In the previous outing that the Fijian star played against this opposition, he kicked the winning goal with seconds remaining on the clock.
Let’s move on now to the tips for Saturday’s match.
Greater Western Sydney Giants vs. West Coast Eagles Round 8 – Total Points Tips
Greater Western Sydney Giants 83.5 Over/Under
The Giants have found themselves without their star forwards and are failing to cope. They only kicked four goals last week in an appalling performance. If Jeremey Cameron misses once again, we believe that going under in this market will be the way to go.
West Coast Eagles 73.5 Over/Under
Over @ $1.88 with Ladbrokes
As the second highest scoring side in the competition, we see the Eagles easily kicking over 74 points. Josh Kennedy, Jack Darling and a rejuvenated Mark LeCras have lead the way in Perth. Leon Cameron will still be without many players due to injury, including Tom Scully who’s two-way running really helps out the defence. The defence was exposed last week and the Eagles could do the same if they are switched on.
Greater Western Sydney Giants vs. West Coast Eagles Round 8 – Player Specials Tips
Josh Kennedy to kick 3+ goals @ $1.65 with William Hill
Since returning from injury, Josh has averaged 3 goals per game. When the Eagles are in a pinch, they look to their stars and they lift. Kennedy will need to play at his best for the Eagles to win. This close match will see some scrappy play, long kicks forward and hard-earned goals, which Kennedy will rise to the occasion to supply.
Dylan Shiel to get 30 touches @ $2.50 with William Hill
Dylan Shiel is possibly the best midfielder the Giants possess. Stephen Coniglio has attracted more attention in these last few weeks because of his brilliant form, meaning Dylan Shiel has the potential to have a breakout game. The $2.50 is great odds for someone who in 2017 was one of the highest disposal getters in the league.
Greater Western Sydney Giants vs. West Coast Eagles Round 8 – Tri bet Tips
Either team by under 15.5 @ $2.60 with Sportsbet
The 15.5 buffer looks fairly generous at this stage of the week. If Naitanui is free to play and the Giants are still without Cameron and Deledio, we may see the margin reduced by a fair way. The Eagles don’t play the best outside of Western Australia, but we think they will not get blown away by too much in this match.
Giants vs. Eagles match predictions
Match Result: West Coast to win @ $2.40 with CrownBet
Line Betting: West Coast +10.5 @ $1.92 with CrownBet
There is always at least one upset in every round, we believe that this is the match in round eight. The Eagles will be very keen on keeping their winning streak alive for another week and with the poor form the Giants are currently in, it is very possible for them to do so. West Coast by at least a couple of goals, especially if Nic Naitanui plays.
