WHAT happened to the script?

Novak Djokovic was supposed to face Roger Federer this Thursday in a blockbuster US Open quarter-final clash.

Instead, the Serb’s next opponent is a 29-year-old journeyman man who has never before passed the fourth round of a grand slam.

John Millman stunned the galleries at Arthur Ashe Stadium on Tuesday with a 3-6, 7-5, 7-6 (9-7), 7-6 (7-3) win over one of the game’s all-time greats.

It was a nightmare result for punters worldwide, including one poor sod who lost a whopping $35,000 after loading up on Federer at $1.02 odds.

Nevertheless, online bookmakers are forecasting an easy night for Djokovic.

The Serb is paying $1.05 at most bookies, even though Sportsbet.com.au reports that more than 87 per cent of the money is on the underdog.

“Punters can’t get enough of Millman and he’s being backed off the board to cause another shock against the Joker,” said Sportsbet’s Will Byrne.

The Australian, ranked 55 in the world, is at $11 to reach the semis and long odds of $67 to snatch the title.
