Saturday, 10 th March, 2018, 1:05 PM AEST, Ted Summerton Recreation Reserve, Moe, Watch on Fox
To kick off the Saturday matches for the third week of the JLT pre-season, the Magpies will host the Bulldogs in Moe.
The two combatants had very different outcomes in their previous matches.
Collingwood were no more than obstacles to the Giants in a 60-point defeat, while the Western Bulldogs played the new-look Hawks and showed signs of recapturing their 2016 form with a solid 22-point win.
The Magpies will look to bounce back this week after last week’s disaster. Coach Nathan Buckley has made a few important changes that should strengthen the Pies immensely. With senior players returning and fringe players desperate to play in round one, we’re expecting a more desperate outfit.
The Bulldogs did little wrong last week. Their young players looked good, especially Aaron Naughton, who played on multiple star forwards, including Jarryd Roughead and Jack Gunston. Naughton is a smoky for the Rising Star as well, paying $21 @ Sportsbet. We expect the same strong performance this week when they face the unpredictable Magpies.
Where’s the value in the betting? Let’s take a look.
Collingwood Magpies vs. Western Bulldogs JLT Most Goals Tips
Finding form in a relatively new position can be challenging for any player, but Collingwood are praying Ben Reid thrives with his new challenge up forward this season. Last week Ben looked the part, but found it difficult finishing in front of the sticks. Maybe Moe is where he can find strong form that will make him a genuine key position forward.
When he matches up against the young Bulldogs defence, expect a few marks around the 50 metre arc. If Reid kicks straight, he could easily bag four to five sausages.
Josh Dunkley $15.00 @ Crownbet
After his impressive performance last week, how could we not put him for most goals? A solid argument for backing Dunkley is how low on small defenders the pies are. Flynn Appleby looked lost when in one on one situations against the Giants. If they choose to replace him, Sam Murray will play his first game for the pies. Either way Dunkley should dominate and is real value here.
Collingwood Magpies vs Western Bulldogs JLT Super Margin Tips
The Pies are capable of winning football games, last week just made everyone forget they could. Once they start playing this game against an opponent of equal skill, they will prove that they’re worth putting your money towards. With the additions of their A graders, they are a different outfit all together. When they win games, it’s normally a decent margin. Against the young Bulldogs, they could easily win by several goals.
10 – 19 $7.00 @ Sportsbet
While they did enjoy last week’s victory, the Dogs will be up against a more desperate opponent looking for a proper round one tune up this week. Coping with the Pies unpredictability will be challenging.
Believe in the superior midfield of the Dogs and you can see them winning this game. With their undermanned
forward line they could find it difficult to score, although the inclusion of some starting 22 players will certainly work wonders.
