Friday, July 7, 7.50pm. Allianz Stadium.

THE inter-city battle between the Roosters and the Rabbitohs might have lost some of its appeal due to State of Origin, but it features two teams desperate for a win.

The Roosters may not be in the same dire situation as the Rabbitohs, but will be looking to get back on track after suffering a humiliating defeat at the hands of the Sharks last weekend.

Roosters’ fans were left reeling after seeing their team go down 12-44 to the defending premiers and it wasn’t a pretty sight.

The Rabbitohs, on the other hand, were scintillating against Penrith on Sunday night and another two points would take them within reach of the top eight.

Thanks to a five-try haul from Alex Johnston and some slick play from Adan Reynolds, the Rabbits were able to put a big number on the Panthers.

Both teams will have be affected by Origin duty, but the Rabbitohs have the more complete team and could spring the upset on Friday night.

Sydney Roosters team and try scorer odds

The Roosters are the most-effected team by Origin, but there’s still some noted try-scorers which bookmakers are expecting to line up.

Daniel Tupou – $12
Latrell Mitchell – $12
Joseph Manu – $12
Michael Gordon – $17
Mitchell Aubusson – $20
Connor Watson – $26
Luke Keary – $26
Jake Friend – $31
Ryan Matterson – $31
Sio Suia Taukeiaho – $36
Zane Tetevano – $36
Jared Waerea-Hargreaves – $46
Kane Evans – $71

There were two players which stood out in the loss to the Sharks and one of them was Joseph Manu.

He’s a touch green around the ears, but Manu provided some good attacking prowess in the loss and he should have more room to move this time around.

Manu has scored four tries from 12 games this season and we believe he will only get better with more game time under his belt.

He’s currently equal favourite for the Roosters at $12 with Sportsbet and we think there’s some good value with that price.

The other player of note is Mitchell Aubusson, who isn’t a noted try scorer, but he seems to play best when the chips are down.

Punters can rely on Aubusson that he’ll give them a run for their money as he always puts his best effort forward.

The three-time 2017 try scorer scored a try against the Storm two weeks back when grabbing the narrow victory and if Aubusson scores on Friday night it might be enough to see the Roosters home.

Aubusson is the clear value at $20 and +250 at CrownBet to score at any time during the match.

Rabbitohs team and first try scorer tips

Alex Johnston – $8
Braidon Burns – $10
Cody Walker – $13
Bryson Goodwin – $15
Hymel Hunt – $18
Angus Crichton – $21
Adam Reynolds – $26
John Sutton – $26
Robbie Farah – $26
Damien Cook – $26
Kyle Turner – $31
Tyrell Fauimaono – $31
Tom Burgess – $46
George Burgess – $61
Zane Musgrove – $61

We can’t look past the effort for Alex Johnson against the Panthers. Johnson was a freak scoring five tries and he was unluckily denied a sixth.

Johnson was mostly the recipient of good play from the halves, but he has to finish the tries and punters will no doubt be backing him in again this Friday.

Johnson is currently $8 to score first which is good value and $1.67 to score at any time. Punters should seriously consider including the $1.67 into their NRL multi bets this weekend as it looks a good thing.

We were also impressed with Cody Walker on the weekend. Walker provided some nice touches and showed why he is held in high regard.

Walker hasn’t scored as many tries as expected this season, but now is the perfect time to strike and he’s one for odds at +1200.

Roosters vs. Rabbitohs game tip

The Roosters are at good value with bookmakers considering they’re the better team, but Origin duty has taken away some of their stars.

Can a depleted Roosters side coming off a drubbing bounce back against a in-form Rabbitohs? The Rabbits don’t exactly keep their form consistent throughout the season so we think they could.

The Roosters are value at the head-to-head price and it would be a big win for them during a rough Origin period.

It should be a close game so for a little more value punters could take the Roosters 1-12.
