Friday, 18th May, 7:50 pm AEST, 2018, Adelaide Oval, Watch on the Seven Network and on the Fox Footy Network.
The Crows will aim to erase the pain from their showdown heartbreak last week when they host the Western Bulldogs at the Adelaide Oval on Friday night.
The Crows are coming off a last-minute loss to the Power in what has been dubbed one of the greatest South Australian showdowns ever. The loss was made all the more painful considering the Crows kicked four goals in the final four minutes to seemingly snatch victory, only to see the Power kick a late goal with just 30 seconds remaining to steal it right back.
What effect will that heartbreak have on Adelaide this week? Only time will tell.
The Bulldogs have quietly won their past three matches in succession. Fighting victories over struggling clubs like the Blues, Gold Coast and the Brisbane Lions does not instil great confidence, but winning form is always good form and with Adelaide suffering a glut of key injuries, the Doggies will go into this match with some belief.
Let’s take a look at what markets caught our attention leading up to this match.
Adelaide Crows vs. Western Bulldogs Round 9 – First Team to Tips
First Team to 15 Points
This punt seems very simple and easy, leading to the short odds. Adelaide is clearly the better side and love to score and score quickly. The Bulldogs may win the centre clearances, but what does it matter if the ball is cut off immediately? Adelaide is very capable of rebounding powerfully if the Bulldogs leave any openings in their defence.
First to 6 Behinds
Western Bulldogs @ $3.25 with Sportsbet
One side has a very accurate goal accuracy, the other is one of the lowest in the competition. Unfortunately for the Bulldogs, they are very inept at converting goals, which is a shame because they give themselves plenty of opportunities. To put it simply, we see Adelaide slotting its goals, whilst the Bulldogs have trouble getting the ball between the big sticks.
Adelaide Crows vs. Western Bulldogs Round 9 – Promotional Market Tips
Matt Crouch to have 30 and Adelaide Wins @ $2.50 with Ladbrokes
Due to the Crows sitting at very short odds to win the match, we have found some bets to add value to the win. This punt relies on Matt Crouch getting the pill 30 times and Adelaide winning. The Bulldogs have a very offensive midfield with Bontempelli, Macrae, Hunter and McLean the main force, all players who are better at finding the footy than stopping their opponents. Matt Crouch should be capable of getting 30 against the Bulldogs, even if he has to get a few easy handballs.
Even though Taylor Walker suffered a minimal glute injury last week, we still think that he will dominate the Bulldogs. Similar to the previous bet, this depend on Walker kicking three majors, which he should be able to do, considering the Bulldogs are short on key defenders at the moment. The only key defender the Bulldogs have had all year was Aaron Naughton, who sadly suffered a horrific ankle injury last week and will miss the match this week unless he makes a very quick recovery.
Adelaide Crows vs. Western Bulldogs Round 9 – Total Points Tips
Total match points 170 Over/Under
Under @ $2.18 with CrownBet
The weather forecast predicts rain for Friday night, leading us to believe the match will be a low-scoring affair. If the Sons of the West have any hope of winning, they will need to even the contest in all areas of the ground, man on man across the whole field will make the game low-scoring as the Crows will be unable to expose the man over the top in transition. The odds are better value in favour of a low-scoring affair. We love value and we think there is some in this punt.
Crows vs. Bulldogs match predictions
Match Result: Adelaide to win @ $1.15 with William Hill
Line Betting: Western Bulldogs +35.5 @ $1.91 with William Hill
Adelaide will win, but not as easily as the odds may suggest. We decided to go with the Doggies at the line in what we expect to be a low-scoring match.
