Sunday, 13th May, 1:10 pm AEDT, 2018, Etihad Stadium, Watch on the Fox Sports Network.

The Kangaroos will host the Richmond Tigers at Etihad Stadium in an attempt to take their second major scalp of the season.

After a brilliant win against the Swans in Sydney, North Melbourne is playing with plenty of confidence and sits at seventh on the ladder after seven matches — an incredible feat in itself for a team widely-tipped to sit at the bottom of the ladder all season.

Richmond has opened its premiership defence in a dominant fashion, sitting at the top of the ladder with the highest percentage in the competition. There claims to being the best side in the competition were only boosted last week against the Dockers, who were blown away by 77 points.

North Melbourne surprisingly has the better record against the premiers, winning two of the last three by a combined total of 87 points. Although it will be very difficult for the Roos to get themselves a win this time around.

Richmond has taken Dion Prestia out of the side due to a foot injury in last week’s outing, the injury is easily covered as the Tigers simply bring back their champion captain, Trent Cotchin, who was a surprise last change last week.

North Melbourne bring back key position players Jarrad Waite and Majak Daw for the clash. Due to the extended bench, we are still uncertain towards the full side changes, but we expect Brad Scott to bring in a stronger and tougher side to tackle the red-hot premiers.

With plenty of markets to choose from, here’s some tips for Sunday’s clash.

North Melbourne Kangaroos vs. Richmond Tigers Round 8 – Player Specials Tips

Mason Wood to kick 2+ goals @ $1.65 with William Hill

Imagine coming back into the side from the reserves, kicking four goals including the sealer and your team wins the match by two points. This was the reality of Mason Wood’s massive game last week. It was his first of the year and boy did he make an impact. The final goal was ridiculously good, especially considering the circumstances of the match. When Mason lines up head to head with Richmond, we think Wood can continue that scintillating form and kick at least a couple of majors.

Jack Riewoldt to kick 2+ @ $1.45 with William Hill

Jack Riewoldt has become a staple in the goal-kicking table each week. As one of the game’s best forwards in the last decade, we see Riewoldt doing what he does best against the North Melbourne defenders at Etihad. Jack does it all, from ground level crumbing to high calibre marks in the air. With so many avenues to goal, not much will stop this champion from kicking just two goals in this match.

North Melbourne Kangaroos vs. Richmond Tigers Round 8 – First and Last to Score Tips

First Team to Score

Richmond Tigers @ $1.64 with Sportsbet

We have seen it so many times before, Nankervis down to Martin who bombs it forward, either a mark will be taken or the plethora of small forwards crumb the ball and kick the goal. With this market, even a miss will solidify the bet. The most important asset for this bet is the centre clearance, which Richmond is very capable in doing. North Melbourne has many quality midfielders, but the Tigers always start on the front foot when they are switched on.

Last Team to Score

North Melbourne Kangaroos @ $2.25 with Sportsbet

Last team to score is such a unique market that we were obliged to give it a go. If Richmond are in the lead towards the end by a decent margin, the best players always are sent to the bench for a well-deserved rest. North Melbourne is a team full of pride and the never-give-up attitude will see them play out the match until the final siren, most likely leading to them kicking the final score of the match. If the Tigers have possession with a minute to go, they will slow down the game and look to hold on until the siren, meaning they will not score the final point or goal of the match.

North Melbourne Kangaroos vs. Richmond Tigers Round 8 – Total Goals Tips

Total Goals 24.5 Over/Under

Under @ $1.95 with Ladbrokes

In the past three weeks, Richmond has not played in a match where 25 plus goals were kicked in total, and we expect this trend to continue through this game. North Melbourne is also known for scrapping out matches in a messy way if it helps. The ugly play will result in a low scoring match. The only negative for this bet will be the Etihad closed roof eliminating any external bad weather, which will clean up the player’s skills, we do not see this making too much of an impact.

Kangaroos vs. Tigers match predictions

Match Result: Richmond Tigers to win @ $1.28 with Ladbrokes
Line Betting: Richmond Tigers – 24.5 @ $1.92 with Ladbrokes

Top of the ladder teams very rarely lose matches in their home state, particularly when they are as good as the Tigers. Alex Rance, Dustin Martin and the returning Trent Cotchin will be too strong for the young Roos, who may experience a lull after beating the Swans in Sydney. Richmond by over four goals.
