Sunday, 3rd June, 3:20 pm AEST, 2018, MCG, Watch on the Seven Network and on the Fox Footy Network.
Collingwood will aim to extend its winning streak to three and stay inside the top eight when it hosts the Fremantle Dockers at the MCG on Sunday.
So far in 2018 you would say the Pies have played better football, but don’t take anything away from the Dockers’ early-season form, considering their injuries and all the external noise surrounding the club.
The expectations on Fremantle were not very high at the beginning of the season. The Dockers were a disappointment in 2017 and failed to recruit any big names over the trade period. The return of captain Nat Fyfe to full fitness and his Brownlow Medal form and a number of kids pulling their weight has given reason for optimism.
Collingwood has unearthed a few stars this season and will debut another new recruit on Sunday. Brody Mihocek is a mature aged rookie from the VFL premiers, Port Melbourne. With full intention of playing Brody as a defender, the tables have turned. Mihocek spent the last fortnight playing forward in the VFL and after doing so well Brody was lucky enough to receive the call up to replace Ben Reid, who is out with a leg injury.
Injury woes have struck both sides as the Pies lose Travis Varcoe (Hamstring), Ben Reid (Leg) and Jeremy Howe with bone bruising in his knee. Fremantle has a similar problem as they will play without Stephen Hill and Aaron Sandilands. Hill will miss with a quad while Sandilands is still recuperating from the concussion he suffered last week.
With all the introductions out of the way, here are the tips for Sunday’s encounter.
Collingwood Magpies vs. Fremantle Dockers Round 11 – Race to Tips
Race to 5 goals
This punt is far from rocket science. We simply think that the Magpies are playing better football right now and they should be capable of getting off to a good start, considering the Dockers are missing some very important personal. With the class of Daniel Wells returning to the side, the Pies look much cleaner when they are on the offensive.
Race to 15 2nd Quarter
Collingwood Magpies @ $1.38 with Ladbrokes
Fremantle’s hope of getting back into the match will depend on whether it can get back into the contest in the second quarter after they will most likely be trailing at quarter time. Collingwood head Coach Nathan Buckley will want to come out in the second term and assert dominance from the first bounce. The Pies often play to their strengths in the second quarter after they start off most matches on the wrong foot, they should keep the trend going and win the second quarter with ease.
Collingwood Magpies vs. Fremantle Dockers Round 11 – Total Points Tips
Collingwood Magpies 100.5 Over/Under
Under @ $1.60 with CrownBet
Set-shot accuracy has become a big asset in the modern game, considering just how much players love to butcher their opportunities. Collingwood has been kicking very straight in the recent weeks, a blessing that never lasts too long for the Woods. We expect a lower-scoring match as the Dockers pride themselves on defence and minimising the amount of scoring from their opposition.
Fremantle Dockers 70.5 Over/Under
Not only are the Dockers better at defence then they are credited for, they are also quite capable of scoring in waves. 2018 hasn’t been the best year for the Purple Haze so far, but this could be the week that turns the clubs’ momentum around. Winning will be difficult, but we see the Dockers giving it a red hot crack this Sunday.
Collingwood Magpies vs. Fremantle Dockers Round 11 – Disposals into Goals Tips
30 Disposals/3 Goals
Tom Phillips/ Michael Walters @ $8.00 with Sportsbet
Simple enough — Tom Phillips to get the ball 30 times and Michael Walter to kick three goals. Tom Phillips is playing so well that his name has even entered All Australian conversation from multiple experts. Phillips averages an incredible 27 touches per match, which includes his game which ended in the second quarter due to concussion. Michael Walters is the best forward that the Dockers can utilise at this point in the season. Walters plays well against certain teams and one of them is the Magpies. Walters once kicked four goals against the Pies and has always kicked at least one goal in every match against the Woods. We expect a big match from the dynamic excitement machine.
Magpies vs. Dockers Match Predictions
Match Result: Collingwood Magpies to win @ $1.22 with William Hill
Line Betting: Fremantle Dockers +29.5 @1.91 with William Hill
The Bookmakers are underestimating the power that Fremantle possess. Nat Fyfe is still one of the best players in the competition and will not allow his side to be beaten by a significant margin. Collingwood to win, but not by anything more than five goals.
