Victorian football titans Collingwood and Richmond will play the biggest game of the season to date at the MCG on Sunday afternoon.

The Tigers have proven in the early rounds of 2018 that they are a premiership contender for the second year in a row — Richmond sees itself atop the ladder for the first time since 1995.

Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley has got his troops playing the best football seen at the club since he first took over as head coach in 2012.

After years of frustration, Collingwood has won its last three games in a row and awoken the Magpie army. Winning this match would put an exclamation mark on their rise this season and turn the football universe upside-down.

Some interesting decisions at selection have left fans of both teams distraught. Collingwood has called upon the mighty Jarryd Blair and the invincible Chris Mayne for the most important game of the season thus far. Fans of the black and white cannot believe the decision, but after seeing how well Blair and Mayne have been playing in the VFL, they may want to keep their mouths shut until after Sunday’s match.

Richmond has omitted three of it’s better players from the last few weeks. Brandon Ellis, Sam Lloyd and the biggest surprise of all, Jacob Townsend, have all been given the flick by Hardwick. With almost every player on the list fit and fighting for a place in the best 22, no player can be guaranteed a game in such a strong side.

As always, the Pies premiership odds were more than halved after one win. If the Magpies can find a way to get the victory against Richmond, all hell will break loose with bookies around the country.

The match of the round has many markets to choose from, here’s some of our suggestions for Sunday’s clash.

Collingwood Magpies vs. Richmond Tigers Round 6 – Player Special tips

Steele Sidebottom to get 30+ disposals @ $1.95 with William Hill

After a brilliant opening five rounds, Steele now leads the AFLCA votes. The AFL coach’s award can be interpreted as the most important award in the league as it is voted on by the game’s coaches.

Sidebottom has always been a talent, but it’s his damaging possessions, goal-sense and consistency that has taken him to a new level this year. We believe Richmond will put work into Pendlebury and Treloar after their incredible ANZAC day performances, leaving Steele free to break out and dominate.

Dustin Martin to get 30+ disposals @ $2.10 with William Hill

You may have noticed that when a player gets a heap of the ball, they are normally playing against the Magpies. David Zaharakis, Brendon Goddard and Zach Merrett all tallied over 30 last week in a match the Pies were victors. The run-with roll has worked in the past when they decide to use it, but there’s one player we can’t see the Woods mitigating this week and that’s Dusty. Expect Martin to be best on ground by the end of the night.

Collingwood Magpies vs. Richmond Tigers Round 6 – First to tips

First team to 35 points

Richmond Tigers @ $1.54 with Sportsbet

Richmond is clearly the best team in the league right now. The way the Tigers score quickly with small forwards is a sight to behold. The mix of big midfielders and forward mosquitoes works so well, that we think they will score quicker than the Magpies, making them the first team to 35 points. Collingwood normally has trouble stopping the momentum of teams, especially when they move the ball too quickly for the defence to stop.

First team to 5 behinds

Collingwood Magpies @ $2.24 with Sportsbet

Last week the Magpies kicked poorly, which went against the grain of their early season accuracy. If the Pies kick the same way they did against Essendon on ANZAC Day, the $2.24 value will make you kick yourself if you decided not to go for it. The only thing stopping Collingwood from kicking the first five behinds will be if Richmond start to miss, which is unlikely due to how well they have kicked in 2018.

Collingwood Magpies vs. Richmond Tigers Round 6 – Total Points tips

Total points 160.5 Over/Under – Over @ $1.52 with CrownBet

Last time these teams played one another, the total score was 179. Both Richmond and Collingwood dramatically improved since early last year.

Scoring over 160 is very achievable for two teams in hot form. If they both decide to let the offence take over the game, we may see a score well above 190, making the 160 child’s play.

Magpies vs. Tigers match predictions

Match Result: Richmond to win @ $1.49 with Sportsbet
Line Betting: Collingwood +14.5 @ $1.92 with Sportsbet

This is such a typical ‘anything can happen’ match up.

We think both clubs have their own specialties and Collingwood just doesn’t match up well against the small and fast Richmond forward line. Richmond by less than two goals would the perfect outcome for our tips.
