Friday, 20th April, 7:50 pm AEST, 2018, SCG, Watch on Seven Network and on Fox Footy.

THE SCG’s first Friday night encounter of the 2018 AFL season looks to be a beauty.

The Sydney Swans and Adelaide Crows will do battle with plenty at stake as some of the game’s finest players go at it.

Swans’ superstar Lance Franklin is in outstanding form, leading the league in goals and score involvements — there’s no doubting he is the best forward in the game and Sydney remains a premiership threat while he’s fit and healthy.

For Adelaide, Rory Laird has emerged as one of the very best small defenders in the competition, tallying the most disposals by any defender, whilst comfortably outplaying his opponent in most contests.

Adelaide will enter the match with more significant injuries. Midfield stars Brad (groin) and Matt Crouch (hamstring) and forward Eddie Betts (hamstring) will be watching from the sidelines due to various injuries.
Sydney is without key forward Sam Reid, who is recovering from a quad injury.

After a disappointing outing against the Magpies, Adelaide will need to show some fight if they are to upset the Swans, who are coming off one of their best wins of the season against the Bulldogs.

Let’s move on now to the tips for the upcoming match.

Sydney Swans vs Adelaide Crows Round 5 – “1st to” tips

First team to 35 points

Sydney Swans @ $1.52 with Sportsbet

After starting sluggishly in their match against the Bulldogs, the Swans managed to come back and win. Head coach John Longmire will prefer his team to start off strong this week when they play the dangerous Crows. We expect a strong start from Sydney.

First to 6 behinds

Adelaide Crows @ $2.38 with Sportsbet

Sydney is the current leaders in the goal accuracy category across the entire league. Although they will be scoring less often, we predict that the Crows kicking will be wayward. Sydney’s backline is the most experienced in the league and will rush behinds when necessary. The SCG is known for its wide pockets, these pockets will be used by Adelaide, but this will only make it harder to kick through the big sticks on the tight angles.

Sydney Swans vs Adelaide Crows Round 5 – Player Special tips

Luke Parker to get 6+ tackles @ $1.85 with William Hill

Parker solidified himself as one of the league’s most aggressive midfielders last week when he laid 10 tackles. This week against the strong Crows midfield, we expect Luke to once again notch up over six tackles. Luke Parker has also laid the seventh most tackles in the competition, with an average of seven per game.

Josh Jenkins to kick 2+ goals @ $1.65 with William Hill

On the larger ground Jenkins will find even more room to sneak out the back for a few Joe the Gooses. His marking capability was nullified by the downpour of rain last week and this Friday may also see some rain. Josh will need to prove himself to his coach and teammates this week and with his captain struggling, we’re expecting him to fill the void with atleast a couple of goals.

Sydney Swans vs Adelaide Crows Round 5 – Both teams to score tips

Both teams to score 60+ points Yes/No – Yes @ $1.22 with Ladbrokes

Another stormy weekend is coming and this will give value for the total points market. Both teams to score 60 is a very achievable feat. Adelaide scored its season-lowest of 58 last week, which should not happen again if they are to contend for the flag this year. Both teams to score at least 60 should come into fruition this Friday.

Swans vs. Crows match predictions

Match Result: Sydney to Win @ $1.42 with CrownBet
Line Betting: Sydney – 16.5 @ $1.92 with CrownBet

Trouble in South Australia has left the Crows in an unsettling position. Sydney should capitalise on the poor form that Adelaide currently finds itself in. The injuries are too severe for the Crows to stand any chance against the rightful premiership favourites. An assertive performance from Longmire’s men will knock off Don Pyke’s boys.
