Saturday, 19th May, 1:45 pm AEST, 2018, Blundstone Arena, Watch on the Fox Footy Network.

North Melbourne will play hosts in Tasmania on Saturday afternoon as they go about making a nightmare start to the GWS Giants’ season even worse.

The Kangaroos have been a shining light among last year’s cellar dwellers, winning four of their opening eight matches while playing hard, competitive football.

The story for the the Giants is much different — GWS have suffered from inconsistency and injuries so far in 2018 and is at risk of falling right out of the premiership race if it can’t turn things around soon.

When going head to head, the overall win-loss differential is highly in favour towards the Roos, mostly due to the Giants early development. However, in the last two matches, the Giants have won by a combined total of 79 points.

The player that has averaged the most fantasy points between the two sides is Giants small forward, Toby Greene, who will not be playing on Saturday.

Sitting alongside Greene in the stands will be a long list of capable stars. Josh Kelly, Brett Deledio, Tom Scully, Zach Williams and possibly Phil Davis will all miss the match due to injury, one of the worst plagues to infect a club in recent times.

North Melbourne can do no wrong. Even when the Roos lose, they have looked a competitive and capable outfit, compared to a shambolic finish to last season. Last week inside midfielder Ben Cunnington set a new record for contested possession with an outrageous 32. Ben will play a key role in boosting the Roos’ chances of victory.

Here’s what we have identified as fair bets for the upcoming match.

North Melbourne vs. Greater Western Sydney Giants Round 9 – Player Specials Tips

Ben Jacobs to Lay 6 Tackles @ $1.50 with William Hill

Ben Jacobs has solidified himself as one of the premium taggers in the league. It is the tagger’s role to make sure his direct opponent doesn’t touch the footy, and if they do, make sure they immediately are tackled. We think Jacobs is a monty to lay at least six tackles in this one.

Jeremy Cameron to Kick 2 Goals @ $2.25 with William Hill

After poor performances in the last fortnight, Jeremy Cameron has gone off the radar of many bookies and is surprisingly paying a decent amount to kick a couple of majors. If the Giants are going to be competitive and possibly win the match, Cameron will need to be switched on from the first bounce, providing a goal-scoring avenue for his side. Robbie Tarrant and Scott Thompson were exposed out the back a few times last week when they attempted to negate the Tigers’ forward fleet. If Cameron uses his aerobic capacity to double back and lead multiple times, he could have a bag by halftime.

North Melbourne vs. Greater Western Sydney Giants Round 9 – Total Match Points Tips

North Melbourne 82.5 Over/Under

Under @ $1.88 with Ladbrokes

After reviewing the weather forecast for Saturday, we can see this match being a low-scoring affair. Projected rain for Saturday has put the high-scoring match out of play. North Melbourne has multiple avenues to goal, but when analysed, we noticed an outlying trend, they are all taller forwards. With rain a possibility to pour down, it is unsafe to go for the high-scoring punt, take the easy option in your multi this round.

Greater Western Sydney Giants 80.5 Over/Under

Under @ $1.83 with Ladbrokes

The rain will play a fairly strong role on Saturday. As a result, we cannot see the Giants getting over 80 points against the Roos in freezing conditions — an incredible five degrees celsius. Ouch.

North Melbourne vs. Greater Western Sydney Giants Round 9 – Highest Scoring Half Tips

Second Half @ $1.75 with Sportsbet

This market is a fifty-fifty chance of winning, but we think the second half will be higher-scoring for multiple reasons. North Melbourne performs better in the second half of matches, as does most of the AFL, which is why the odds are on the shorter side. When the game is to be won the players step up and use that extra bit of energy to finish their work off. Matches often pick up intensity in the second half and will be better suited to deliver in windy, wet conditions.

Kangaroos vs. Giants Match Predictions

Match Result: North Melbourne to win @ $1.74 @ CrownBet
Line Betting: North Melbourne -4.5 @ $1.92 with CrownBet

Our opinion of North Melbourne has changed since the start of the season. The Roos started playing with such vigour in the opening eight rounds that we had to change our mind. We expect the Roos to win by multiple goals in this match against the depleted Giants.
