Round 9 result:Hawthorn Hawks: Loss to Brisbane, 73-129West Coast Eagles: Win over Richmond, 130-83
Sunday, 27th May, 1:10 pm AEST, 2018, Etihad Stadium, Watch on the Fox Footy Network.
The Hawks will go head-to-head with the top-of-the-table Eagles at Etihad Stadium this Sunday afternoon in perhaps the biggest game in an action-packed weekend of football.
After contrasting performances in round 9, both clubs will know they need to bring their best football to win the four points.
After a bright start to the season Hawthorn was beaten by Brisbane last round by 56-points in a poor effort.
In a top-two clash last week, the Eagles played like men possessed after half time and demolished the Tigers, taking the 47-point victory, as well as top position on the ladder.
Hawthorn has developed the winning feeling against the Eagles past few years, dating all the way back to their 2015 premiership over Adam Simpson’s men. Both sides have changed significantly since last year’s Hawthorn victory, so you can expect a much different match-up this Sunday.
Even though Elliot Yeo suffered a knee injury in the opening quarter, he played out the match and was one of the best players on the ground after half time. The only problem for the Eagles will be whether he can pass the fitness test this week and train well enough to play. Adam Simpson announced he is a 50-50 chance of playing this week.
Hawthorn will bring back O’Meara for the clash, strengthening the already-powerful midfield.
Here are the tips we think will bring us goof fortune this Sunday.
Hawthorn Hawks vs. West Coast Eagles Round 10 – First Goal Tips
First Goal Scorer
Jack Darling is currently the best forward in the league. He gets up the ground, tests the fitness of defenders, runs back and then has improved his contested marking inside 50. With last week’s six-goal haul still fresh in his memory, we expect Darling to be hot from the opening bounce, and slot the first goal.
Time of First Goal
1:01 – 2:00 @ $4.20 with Sportsbet
This punt takes into account how many minutes will pass before the first goal is kicked. We expect that both sides will attack hard early under the roof and after an early centre clearance, we expect both sides — who launch attacks from the back half — will look to repel with direct football for an early major.
Hawthorn Hawks vs. West Coast Eagles Round 10 – Total Goals Tips
Hawthorn Hawks 12.5 Over/Under
Under @ $1.85 with Ladbrokes
Hawthorn has found itself caught in the rough these last few matches, scoring under 75 points in both matches. The Eagles have a wonderful defensive unit that works extremely well together. The Eagles have not allowed any club to kick over 13 goals since the first round of the season against the Swans, making them one of the best defensive teams in the league.
West Coast Eagles 13.5 Over/Under
Whilst winning the last eight matches of the season, head coach Adam Simpson has used multiple forwards to score, ranging from smalls to tall targets inside 50. With so many different ways to kick goals, we really think the Eagles will easily tally over 14 goals in this match. Josh Kennedy and Jack Darling are the best pair of key forwards the league has seen in years. Marc LeCras has also had an incredible input on the scoreboard this season.
Hawthorn Hawks vs. West Coast Eagles Round 10 – Highest Scoring Half Tip
First Half @ $2.12 with William Hill
Alastair Clarkson and Adam Simpson will be keen to make changes in the second half to minimise the amount of scoring that will occur in the first half. In most matches the second half brings less goals because the teams have acquired a feel for each other and know how to stop their bursts forward. If we punt on the first half to score higher, we could have some spare change for the week ahead.
Hawks vs. Eagles Match Predictions
Match Result: West Coast Eagles to Win @ $1.70 with CrownBet
Line Betting: West Coast Eagles – 6.5 @ $1.92 with CrownBet
The Eagles often have trouble winning matches in Melbourne, but this game will not be the one that breaks the longest winning streak in the league. The Hawks were embarrassed last week and we think they will have a hard time getting back in the winning books.
