Friday, January 5, 2018 – 6:10pm AEST – The Gabba, Brisbane

THE Brisbane Heat fired a warning shot to the rest of the competition on Tuesday night.

The Melbourne Stars had no answers as Brendon McCullum, Chris Lynn and Joe Burns ran down a target of 141 inside 15 overs at the MCG.

But the story of the night was the performance of the Heat’s twin leg-spinners.

Yasir Shah was spot-on yet again and Mitch Swepson put in a career-best shift with three wickets for only 14 runs.

Can they back it up against one of the world’s most successful T20 teams?

The Perth Scorchers‘ title defence is off to a roaring start.

They are undefeated in four games after rallying late to upstage the Sydney Sixers on Monday night.

Michael Klinger set the tone with a classy 83 before debutant Tim David finished the job with some clean hitting at the death.

That display showed that the Scorchers can find ways to win even when their power-packed bowling attack has an off night.

Mitchell Johnson went wicketless against the Sixers, while Jhye Richardson was smashed to all corners of the WACA.

One suspects the Perth quicks will have to lift on Friday if they wish to maintain their unbeaten record in the Big Bash League.

Chris Lynn odds and betting specials

Lynn top scored with 63 in the win over the Stars.

The frightening thing is that he showed no touch whatsoever in that innings.

He struggled to get his eye in against Stars spinners Adam Zampa and Michael Beer at the ‘G.

But do the Scorchers have any slow bowlers of that quality?

Ashton Agar is away with the Test squad, James Muirhead has only just returned to top-flight cricket and Adam Voges is a genuine part-timer.

Perth’s four-pronged pace attack might be just what Lynn needs to rediscover his brilliant, bludgeoning best.

Best bets for Heat vs. Scorchers

It is not often an undefeated team enters a game as the outsider.

Perhaps concerns over Klinger’s availability have turned punters off the Scorchers?

He missed the trip to Sydney in round one due to his wife Cindy’s recent dancer diagnosis.

But the Perth stalwart made the journey to Melbourne a week later and there is no suggestion that he will opt out of the clash in Brisbane.

Regardless, the Scorchers have already shown they can win without him.

The Heat are white hot after their rout of the Stars, but was that game a true indicator of form?

Bear in mind that man-of-the-match Swepson was wicketless in BBL07 until then.

The Bash Brothers are a huge asset, especially now they are opening the innings together.

Brisbane should smoke the sixes count if even one of them hangs around for a few overs.

Nevertheless, we reckon the defending champions and their all-seasons game will get the job done at the Gabba.
