AFTER a few years off the boil, the Brisbane Heat are starting to burn in a big way.

They looked in serious trouble on Wednesday night after Sydney Thunder ripped through the top order to leave them 6/63 with 10 overs left and 95 runs to get.

Then Chris Lynn happened.

The 26-year-old Queenslander smashed 85 off 48 balls to lead the Heat home with three wickets and a couple of deliveries to spare.

“It was a bit of a rollercoaster this game,” Lynn told the media post-match.

“I wanted to give us the opportunity to hit some boundaries at the end. I just stick to Plan A.”

That result leaves Brisbane with two wins from two and leading the 2016-17 T20 Big Bash League standings.

Brendan McCullum’s men will look to complete the hat-trick this Friday when they host Hobart Hurricanes in their first game at the Gabba in BBL06.

After slaughtering Sydney Sixers in their opener, the Tasmanians were well beaten by an impressive Melbourne Stars outfit down at Bellerive Oval on Boxing Day.

The Hurricanes have already shown plenty, however, with George Bailey, Tim Paine and hot-shot recruit D’Arcy Short all putting in good shifts with the bat.

Clive Rose has also made an excellent start to Big Bash 2016-17, combining a fine economy rate with key top-order wickets against the Sixers.

Hurricanes coach Damien Wright – a fine limited-overs bowler in his day – would be most concerned about his expensive quicks.

Stuart Broad and Shaun Tait have taken five wickets between them thus far, but each at a cost of more than 10 runs an over.

Perhaps that is why the Hurricanes haven’t budged from their $11 opening quote in Sportsbet’s Big Bash outright market, even though both Adelaide Strikers ($14) and the winless Thunder ($26) have slipped behind them.

Is there a more powerful hitter in the Twenty20 Big Bash League?

Although the Thunder’s horrendous fielding gave him a lifeline or two, Lynn was at his clean-striking best on Wednesday as he powered Brisbane to victory from a seemingly hopeless position.

When he’s doing that on a two-paced pitch at Spotless Stadium, the prospect of him at home on that beautiful Gabba batting strip is almost frightening.

And the Hurricanes would have every right to be scared of Lynn after what he did to them in this fixture last season – a brutal 101 off 51 balls that featured some of biggest sixes ever seen in this country.

The Australia T20 international took a particular liking to the raw pace of Pat Cummins the other night, so he might fancy himself against the oft-expensive Tait.

Heat vs. Hurricanes match tips

The Heat may be unbeaten, but they are far from unbeatable.

Had the Thunder not dropped four regulation catches, Brisbane would be one and one heading into Friday’s game.

But there is a new fighting spirit and bright-eyed optimism about the Queensland club this year, not least due to Brendon McCullum’s daring and innovative leadership.

Their bowling lacks star power and can take a beating, but the Hurricanes aren’t a whole lot better off in that department.

It comes down to which top order will do the most damage: Lynn, McCullum, Jimmy Peirson and Alex Ross, or Bailey, Paine, Short and Kumar Sangakkara.

All the betting value is with Hobart, who won the Gabba shootout last year in what was arguably the match of the 2015-16 Big Bash season.

Whichever way you go, expect plenty of runs.
