SIMONA Halep has taken an eventful route to the 2018 Australian Open final.
The Romanian could so easily have come undone in round three when she survived a rolled ankle to beat Lauren Davis 15-13 in the third set.
She followed that with clinical wins over Naomi Osaka and arch-rival Karolina Pliskova before edging out the favourite, Angelique Kerber, in the semi-finals.
It has been a mature campaign, and one that has more than justified Halep’s number one ranking.
Now she comes up against another top seed with a point to prove in the grand slams.
This is the first time in five years that Caroline Wozniacki has made it to the second week of the Australian Open.
The Dane has taken full advantage of a favourable draw in which she has faced only two seeded players.
They were Kiki Bertens (30) in the third round and Magdalena Rybarikova (19) in the fourth.
It has not all been smooth sailing, but Wozniacki has navigated the rough patches with aplomb.

Halep has shown all the traits of a grand slam winner.
Her fighting third-set displays against Davis and Kerber are testament to her mental fortitude.
The world number one is a tidy, correct, hard-working player, but does she have enough weapons to outgun Wozniacki?
The second seed is a beautiful mover who covers more of the court than any other woman on tour.
But what has stood out this summer is the improvement in her ballstriking.
She is winning a lot more points on her first serve and has much more confidence in her forehand.
Wozniacki is as hungry and focused as ever, and we think she looks a winner at good odds.
Recent results are in her favour too, as she has beaten Halep in each of their last three meetings.
