Sunday, 13th May, 3:20 pm AEDT, 2018, MCG, Watch on the Seven Network and on the Fox Footy Network.
The MCG will host one of the best games round eight has to offer this Sunday afternoon when the in-form Collingwood Magpies face the star-studded Geelong Cats.
Some of our game’s classiest players will make their return to the field this week for both sides. Collingwood bring back the elusive Daniel Wells, who will bring a touch of poise to the Collingwood midfield and forward line.
Geelong has bought back the little master Gary Ablett Jr for the clash, finally recovering from the hamstring injury he sustained in round three. Alongside Ablett is full back Harry Taylor who has surprised many by returning ahead of time. Taylor will be a crucial asset this week as he will be given the job to stop Collingwood‘s big American, Mason Cox.
Collingwood captain Scott Pendlebury was forced to sit out of the match last week against Brisbane after suffering a serious ankle knock. Scans during the week have revealed no major damage and Pendlebury is still a chance to play. Even though he has been named in the final 22, the Magpies will take no chances if anything is wrong come game day.
The match-up between the Cats and Pies has been one to watch over the last few seasons. Despite it’s lowly ladder position in recent times, Collingwood has won three of the last four.
Nathan Buckley is confident that the Pies match up well against Chris Scott’s Cats.
Let’s take a look at the tips we have provided for Sunday’s monster battle.
Collingwood Magpies vs. Geelong Cats Round 8 – Any Time Goal Scorer Tips
Jaidyn Stephenson @ $1.40 with William Hill
This young star has been one of the best goal-kickers in the league in the last four rounds. Standing alongside Luke Bruest and Ben Brown, Jaidyn Stephenson is one of the few players to kick 10 goals in the last four rounds. As soon as his first goal went through against Adelaide, Stephenson hasn’t missed a beat. The Cats may not have a player capable of running with Jaidyn if he puts on his afterburners in space.
Tim Kelly is has been a revelation in his first season at the top level. Averaging a goal per game, Kelly has managed to slip into one of the strongest midfields in the modern era and hold his own. Last week Kelly took home the best on ground after collecting 30 touches and nine out of a possible 10 coach’s votes. This week Kelly should strive to get forward and kick a goal against the Pies.
Collingwood Magpies vs. Geelong Cats Round 8 – Disposals Tips
How many of Sidebottom, Treloar, Duncan and J. Selwood will get 30 or More Disposals
Exactly 3 @ $5.25 with CrownBet
This market caught our eye as one filled with value and great to watch out for. Instead of cheering for one player to get 30, try going for three of these stars to do so. Sidebottom and Treloar are in stunning form, as is Mitch Duncan. Out of these four it is the previous three mentioned who we think will get 30, but if Selwood does so and one other doesn’t, the bet is still a winner. Last week Sidebottom and Duncan did accumulate the 30, hopefully they can do so again in this clash.
Magpies vs. Cats Most Disposals
The market for most disposals has Dangerfield as a smokey at $9.00 — value that has to be taken. Dangerfield is not lighting the world on fire this year, but still is putting together quality performances each week. If no Collingwood player is capable of negating the star, we could see an exceptional individual performance.
Collingwood Magpies vs. Geelong Cats Round 8 – Both Team to Score Tips
Both Teams to Score 80+ Points @ $2.30 with Ladbrokes
Last week Collingwood scored 121 and Brisbane scored 114, an outlier when compared to other games this year. We can foresee another encounter similar to last week’s match. Geelong is going to play very well and so will the Woods. $2.30 is the long odds, but could lead to a great payout on Sunday.
Magpies vs. Cats Match Predictions
Match Result: Collingwood to win @ $2.25 with Sportsbet
Line Betting: Collingwood +8.5 @1.91 with Sportsbet
If the Magpies can make a statement to the league, it will be in this match against the Cats. Nathan Buckley has made plenty of positive changes to the Magpies and they look like they can upset many teams in 2018. Taking the line is a good option for this match.
