Sunday, 22nd April, 3:20 pm AEST, 2018, Etihad Stadium, Watch on Seven Network and on Fox Footy.

NORTH Melbourne and Hawthorn — two of the biggest surprise packets of the 2018 AFL season so far — will go face to face this Sunday at Etihad Stadium.

Hawthorn has won three matches from its opening month — matches they started as underdog in. How will they deal with the favourite tag for the first time in 2018?

North Melbourne has surprised punters. Many experts had no faith that Brad Scott’s men could compete with other rising teams in 2018, but the Roos have been impressive in beating up fellow cellar dwellers and being competitive in other losses.

The Roos had the largest win of the season against the Blues last week. Their defence was working so well that an inept Carlton failed to score in the third quarter.

North weren’t the only team that denied their opponents a score during one quarter on the weekend.

Hawthorn amazingly kept Melbourne goalless for two whole quarters and only let through one solitary goal in the fourth. This was no mean feat, considering the Demons kicked five goals in the opening quarter of the match.

Hawthorn will need to find another gear this Sunday as they will be without premiership small forwards Paul Puopolo and Cyril Rioli, who unfortunately suffered hamstring and knee injuries respectively in last round’s victory.

Sunday’s match is set to be a ripper, here’s some tips courtesy of us.

North Melbourne vs Hawthorn Hawks Round 5 – Player Specials tips

North Melbourne

Billy Hartung 20+ Disposals @ $1.12 with William Hill

When Billy faces his old team for the first team he will be seeking revenge. Hawthorn did not trade Hartung, they delisted him after he played 18 matches for them last year. The delisting may have come as a shock to Hartung, but it hasn’t stopped Billy from performing at North Melbourne. With an average of 22 touches per game, Hartung should find the footy at least 20 times against the Hawks.

Hawthorn

Luke Breust 2+ Goals @ $1.40 with William Hill

Currently sitting in eighth position on the Coleman Medal leader board, Luke Breust has a great sense for the goals and possesses a very accurate set shot. North’s medium-sized defenders will have their hands full if Luke can get on a roll early. Two goals is very achievable for a player averaging nearly three per match.

North Melbourne vs. Hawthorn Hawks Round 5 – Total Goals tips

North Melbourne

12.5 Over/Under – Under @ $1.94 with Sportsbet

Unless they shock the footy world again, we cannot see the Kangaroos kicking over 12 goals in this match. Hawthorn’s backline has transitioned flawlessly from its premiership days. If they can keep North’s gun forward Ben Brown from kicking a bag, the Roos will struggle to score.

Hawthorn Hawks

14.5 Over/Under – Over @ $1.79 with Sportsbet

After last week’s 18-goal haul, we can see Hawthorn emulating the same performance again this week. North Melbourne has played well and won games, but it only beat Carlton and an underwhelming St Kilda. The North defence has been the best this season. They may have conceded the lowest score of all the teams, but that is set to change as the come up against one of the better teams in the comp.

North Melbourne vs Hawthorn Hawks Round 5 – Margin tips

Hawthorn to win by more than 24.5 @ $2.35 with Ladbrokes

We don’t just expect the Hawks to win, we predict a fairly hefty margin to occur. Hawthorn have too many stars that will destroy the North Melbourne midfield. As proven last week, if Mitchell has another shocker, Jaeger is there to step up and take the lead. Ben McEvoy and Todd Goldstein will be an excellent matchup.

Kangaroos vs. Hawks match predictions

Match Result: Hawthorn to win @ $1.44 with CrownBet
Line Betting: Hawthorn – 15.5 @ $1.92 with CrownBet

This game will be won comfortably by the mighty Hawks. Hawthorn has excellent depth and will be able to cover the injuries to Poppy and Cyril. The Hawks will win as they simply have more class than the Roos.
