Saturday, 16th June, 7:25 pm AEST, 2018, MCG, Watch on the Seven Network and on the Fox Footy Network.
The Adelaide Crows will return to the MCG for the first time since the 2017 Grand Final to take on the Hawthorn Hawks this Saturday.
Hawthorn had a bye last round and enjoyed a session at Etihad Stadium trialling all the AFL’s newest rule changes.
Adelaide played a shocking match in Perth last round where they lost to the Dockers by three points. A match that bookmakers had the Crows winning easily.
Adelaide will need to return to its best if it wants to defeat the Hawks at the home of football.
Hawthorn made one change during the week, the inclusion of Will Langford after Tim O’Brien was omitted. This change supports a smaller forward-line and a faster style of play against the taller Adelaide Crows.
Adelaide head coach Don Pyke has made four changes for the match. Kyle Cheney, Jordan Gallucci, Andy Otten and debutant Patrick Wilson come into the side whilst Luke Brown, Cameron Ellis-Yolmen, Darcy Fogarty and Lachlan Murphy are all out.
The Adelaide outs are all omissions, barring Luke Brown who misses with an ankle complaint.
If either of these sides are hopeful of making the finals in 2018 they will need to win this match and make a push for the top eight in the coming weeks.
Let’s take a look at the tips we have chosen for this Saturday’s crucial match.
Hawthorn Hawks vs. Adelaide Crows Round 13 – Total Points Tips
Hawthorn Hawks 90.5 Over/Under
Under @ $1.44 with CrownBet
The Hawks average 85 points per match. With an average that high you would think they could break the 90 point mark, except that number is inflated due to playing weaker sides early in the season. The Hawks are a quality side, but the Crows still contain some quality defence. 90 points is a very healthy total at the end of a footy match, especially this year. The Crows will not concede a total that high this week.
Adelaide Crows 70.5 Over/Under
Not only do the Crows have a quality backline, they also boast one of the best forward lines in the league. The core of Taylor Walker, Josh Jenkins and Eddie Betts works a treat when they are all on. Hawthorn also has a very young backline which do make mistakes at times, so we’re backing the Crows to kick at least 12 goals and put up a fight here.
Hawthorn Hawks vs. Adelaide Crows Round 13 – Player Special Tips
Luke Bruest to score 2 goals in the opening quarter @ $7.00 with William Hill
Luke Bruest is almost the best small forward in the league. We regularly see Bruest kicking plenty of goals in the opening quarter of matches and we predict he will do so once again here. Crows small backman Rory Laird will still be sitting in the stands after not recovering in time from his hand injury, so Adelaide does not have anyone to match up with the Hawks danger man.
Matt Crouch to get 30 disposals @ $1.36 with Sportsbet
Matt Crouch is the best midfielder in an injury-riddled Crows lineup. It’s likely he’ll match up with Tom Mitchell and will follow him to the ball, putting himself in all the right positions on the night and a solid bet to tally well over 30 touches.
Hawthorn Hawks vs. Adelaide Crows Round 13 – Tri-bet Tip
Either team to win by less than 15.5 points @ $2.60 with Ladbrokes
We looked at the tri-bet and decided the best option was the closer nail-biter. We analysed the stats and decided the Crows will be able to hold on well enough to make this match a close one. Both sides also played in very close matches last week and we can see a similar result at the MCG this Saturday.
Hawks vs. Crows Match Predictions
Match Result: Hawthorn Hawks to win @ $1.60 with Sportsbet
Line Betting: Hawthorn Hawks -9.5 @ $1.92 with Sportsbet
Adelaide has not played at its best when traveling interstate in 2018, especially in Melbourne where they have only won the single match against a poor St Kilda. Hawthorn will capitalise on this opportunity to get a victory against a side that is not at their best.
