Saturday, 7th April, 2018, 7:25 pm AEST, SCG, Watch on Fox Footy.

THE battle of the bridge commences this Saturday in what will be the biggest match between the Swans and Giants to date.

Bookmaker odds suggest that these two clubs are going to be right in the midst of the premiership race, meaning we could be seeing an early preview of what’s to come in September.

Serious injuries to the Giants have made the Swans shorter odds for the match. Running machine Tom Scully suffered a horrific ankle injury against the Magpies last week, while Toby Greene is still in doubt with a tight hamstring — both players are key pillars to the Giants’ success.

John Longmire’s only problem is in the ruck as Callum Sinclair will have to go solo for a majority of the season. Against the Giants this isn’t as big a problem. Giants big man Rory Lobb is still progressing with his craft in the ruck, which he makes up for with his agility and marking capability around the ground.

Lance Franklin has been waiting for this day all week. With the red-hot form he is in, the Giants may be in trouble at the SCG.

Let’s move on now to the tips for this great match-up.

Sydney Swans vs. Greater Western Sydney Giants Round 3 – Any Player To tips

Any Player to Score 5 Goals Yes/No

Yes @ $2.20 with Sportsbet

With Lance Franklin at one end of the ground and Jeremy Cameron at the other, the chances of one of these stars kicking five are well within reason. Franklin kicked four last week in a losing match and eight in Perth against a strong West Coast backline. The inclusion of Hannebery makes a huge difference as the two link up well together. Jeremy Cameron is also an excellent footballer and very capable of half a dozen goals on a good day.

Any Player to get 40 disposals Yes/No

No @ $1.07 with Sportsbet

Short odds and with good reason. Such a diverse spread of talent between both midfields leaves minimal chances for a single player to dominate in terms of touches. Both teams don’t rely on a single midfielder to post ridiculous numbers each week. A hot contested footy shared between multiple midfielders should not result in any outliers in the disposals category.

Sydney Swans vs. Greater Western Sydney Giants Round 3 – Total Points Over/Under tips

Sydney Swans

89.5 Over @ $1.92 with Sportsbet

90 points for a whole match of football is far from impossible. The Swans have multiple avenues to goal and play fast-paced football. With such a high calibre forward line, led by the best forward in the land, Lance Franklin, bolstering a plethora of talent, it is hard to see them not topping 100 points.

Greater Western Sydney Giants

83.5 Over @ $1.89 with Sportsbet

The same argument presented for the Swans can be made for the Giants. The quality of players is outrageous. Rival clubs would pay big money to have the fourth-best forward at the Giants — that’s how stacked the line-up is. On a small ground, we’re expecting a shoot-out in good conditions.

Sydney Swans vs. Greater Western Sydney Giants Round 3 – Winning Margin tips

Sydney Swans

20 – 39 @ $4.75 with CrownBet

With the Giants missing some important players, the Swans should pounce on the opportunity to win the match. Coming off a home loss will only fire them up more as they face the reality of starting the season on the wrong foot once again. Dominating the Giants is the start to getting back on track. Four to five goals is what we predict.

Greater Western Sydney Giants

1 – 19 @ $4.50 with CrownBet

The time is now for Leon Cameron’s men to make their move as a genuine premiership contender. This is the first game they enter as underdogs and winning would make them the outright favourite to go all the way. Be prepared for this talented group to come out swinging in a close contest.

Sydney vs. GWS match predictions

Match Result: Sydney to win @ $1.70 with William Hill
Line Betting: Sydney – 5.5 @ $1.90 with William Hill

Sydney has the best midfield in the league, the likes of Josh Kennedy and Luke Parker have proven themselves to be game winners, which is what they will do Saturday night against the Giants. They should win and cover their one-goal line.
