Ablett & Mitchell disposal betting – Cats vs. Hawks Easter Monday tips

FOOTBALL’S most-storied modern rivalry between the star-studded Geelong Cats and evergreen Hawthorn Hawks continues at the MCG on Easter Monday.

Over the last decade, dating back to a famous 2008 Grand Final, these two sides have treated us to classic after classic — and we’re expecting much of the same again here.

Chris Scott and his Cats were extremely fortunate to leave the MCG as victors in Round 1 after Dees’ ruckman Max Gawn missed his chance to win the match from 20 metres out, directly in front. The Cats were not playing at their best last week, but that is set to change when a certain Brownlow Medallist comes back into the side. Patrick Dangerfield will make his return from a hamstring strain, completing the holy trinity that also includes Gary Ablett Jr and Joel Selwood.

Hawthorn picked apart a poor Collingwood side in what resulted in a wonderful round one victory. The Hawks’ stars were back in action, including the elusive Cyril Rioli, who managed a fantastic game setting up multiple goals. Luke Bruest and Jack Gunston kept the forward line working like a well-oiled machine in the win.

The last time these two side met on Easter Monday, Geelong ran away with an 86-point margin. The next time they met it was a different story. Hawthorn held strong but failed to get the win as a one-legged Dangerfield kicked 5.6. Tom Mitchell was best afield for the Hawks with 43 possessions and two goals.

As they showed last week, scoring against an average team isn’t a problem. This week they come up against one of the premiership favourites. The Hawks can look to utilise Jack Gunston and Jarryd Roughead against a Geelong side which lacks key defenders. Hawthorn will find scoring and possession harder to come by against Geelong than it did against Collingwood, so expect a drop in scoring.

The little master is back. 39 touches in his return match for Geelong. Even at his old age he can still find the footy. With the addition of Dangerfield to the side, Ablett has more opportunities to run loose. This is a great multi-filler for punters.

If you are looking to add another leg to your multi, Tom Mitchell is coming off the most ever disposals in a football match. Jaeger O’Meara fed Mitchell for many of his outside disposals, then he goes on the inside and shovels out handballs to his teammates. Mitchell is the perfect modern day midfielder. 30 touches should come naturally for such an amazing talent – it would now be considered a poor game for the Hawthorn star.

The Hawks have scared the Cats in previous outings and if they bring last week’s momentum and form into the game and quell the Geelong superstars, they can steal a win here. Geelong was slow out of the blocks last week and if they repeat that effort, the Hawks could pounce.
